2010 has seen some winning horror films, including The Crazies, The Last Exorcism, and The Wolfman. With the holiday season upon us and a slate of feel-good films filling theaters, MindfireEntertainment is fast-forwarding a few months and counting down some of our most anticipated horror films of 2011.The Cabin in the WoodsDirector: Drew GoddardWriter: Drew Goddard and Joss WhedonStarring: Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Amy AckerJoss Whedon turned the horror genre on its head with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Drew Goddard wrote some of our favorite episodes, along with the script for Cloverfield. We can’t wait to see what they do with the classic “people trapped in the woods” storyline, which has been a horror film staple since the original Friday the 13th.Sucker PunchDirector: Zack SnyderWriter: Zack Snyder and Steve ShibuyaStarring: Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie CornishZack Snyder has always made films with a distinctive visual style, from his break-out hit 300 to the recent Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole. In that same vein, he describes Sucker Punch as “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns.” The story takes place in the 1950s, and is set simultaneously in an insane asylum and the fantasy world of a young girl known as Babydoll.Faces in the CrowdDirector: Julien MagnatWriter: Julien MagnatStarring: Milla Jovovich, Julian McMahon, Sarah Wayne CalliesMilla Jovovich is at the center of one of the Resident Evil film series, arguably one of the most hyper-kinetic horror films of recent memory. However, we’re excited to see her in this more subdued horror-thriller. The title refers to the affliction of Jovovich’s charactera “face-blindness” that causes her to see different facial features each time she loses sight of them. Too bad a serial killer is targeting her. We expect plenty of twists in this one.The Woman in BlackDirector: James WatkinsWriter: Jane GoldmanStarring: Daniel Radcliffe, Ciaran Hinds, Janet McTeerBased on a 1983 novel by author Susan Hill, this work is inspired by classic British ghost stories. A young lawyer (Radcliffe) travels to a small town and encounters a mysterious woman in black haunting the village. The story sounds chilling enough, but we’re equally excited at seeing Daniel Radcliffe in new roles after his successful Harry Potter series.
